This paper describes how electrospray ionization with HPIMS allows direct analysis of non-volatile organic and biological samples, and avoids decomposition of thermally labile samples, providing reliable chemical identification. The paper demonstrates these advantages for the analysis of non-volatile pharmaceuticals as well as dissolved explosives in solution phase.
